Chiropractors are health care professionals who are known best for providing ‘manual therapy’ for range of painful conditions. Manual therapy means hands-on treatment. Chiropractors are historically known for Spinal manipulation, or ‘Adjustments’ in which we provide short sharp thrusts on stiff or restricted areas of the spine to help improve mobility and reduce pain, these are often associated with a ‘click’ or ‘pop’.
However, treatment sessions often involve a number of different techniques in addition to Spinal Manipulation. These include massage, trigger point therapy, fascial release techniques, joint mobilisations and stretching. Additionally Chiropractors will provide exercises and lifestyle advice.

Chiropractors have extensive education in the diagnosis and management of musculoskeletal disorders.
When you first visit a Chiropractor, you will have an Initial consultation. The Chiropractor will take a full medical history from you, before performing a physical examination to determine the cause of your symptoms. Following this, they will explain your diagnosis.
If this is something that Chiropractic treatment can help with, they will discuss a care plan with you. This will involve the recommended treatments, number of treatments, expected cost and any risks associated. Providing that you are happy with this plan and have been given opportunity to ask questions, you will be required to sign your consent to start treatment.

Chiropractors may suggest referral/recommendation for X-ray, MRI, diagnostic ultrasound and blood tests if it is necessary in your case. We may also ask to write to your GP if required.
Throughout your period of treatment it’s very important that we periodically assess and check for changes and improvement. This might be achieved by asking your pain level, your ability to perform activities, re-checking your mobility and tests or asking you to complete questionnaires.
